The Path to Membership at Old Ship Church
Consider
- Attending services at Old Ship several times to learn about our community and beliefs
- Filling out the visitor's form in the church bulletin or coming to the Fellowship Hall after a service to visit our Newcomers' Table. At the table, you might complete a welcoming form, take an information packet, talk to a greeter, and request a nametag
Connect
- Go to our website (OldShipChurch.org) for more information and to learn about the many opportunities and activities that are available to all. If you prefer, we have hard copies available of this same information.
- Attend a Newcomers' Orientation Session. During this session, you will get an overview of our denomination, history, and philosophy as well as some practical information about Old Ship. You will hear more about the process of becoming a member as well as membership responsibilities such as committing time and talents.
Commit
- Schedule an appointment with our minister, Ken Read-Brown, who can be contacted at oldshipkrb@comcast.net. Should you desire to join, Ken will arrange a time for you to sign our historic Membership Book.
- Once you have become a member, we will introduce you to the congregation during a church service, do an interview for the newsletter, and take a picture of you for our new members' photo board so that others can get to know you better. We will encourage you also to become involved in some way such as serving coffee during coffee hour, being an usher during the Sunday service or attending Old Ship social events. You will be asked to make an annual financial contribution to Old Ship. We offer helpful guidelines that are based on your income and commitment level.
Celebrate
- Every spring, we welcome all new members at a formal ceremony in the Meeting House. We offer you our hearty congratulations and welcome you with an open heart.
- We again begin the path of welcoming new members to our community, enriched and strengthened by your presence.
